GOP: "TGIF!"
What a week!

(Hat-tip [info]kierthos)

White House Press Secretary Tony Snow announced his resignation today, 16 months before the end of the Bush presidency. He'll be replaced by deputy press secretary Dana Perino when he steps down on September 14th.

Snow, 52, finished chemotherapy treatments two weeks ago in his battle against colon cancer. He cited financial reasons for his departure, and said his health is good. His White House salary is $168,000, much less than he made in his previous job as a right-wing hack television commentator.

Married with three children, Snow said he took out a loan to work at the White House and the money has simply run out.

UPDATE: And you thought it couldn't get any better...

John Warner (R-VA) just tossed in the towel for '08, leaving him free to openly voice his opposition to Bush's Iraq policy and giving the Dems a golden opportunity to grab his seat.

I sort of feel sorry for him. He doesn't look so well anymore.

Yeah, chemotherapy is pretty rough on the body.

I wish him well in his fight against cancer (he seems to be in remission), but personally and politically-speaking, he was a real SOB. I'm not sorry to see him leave.

I know what your mean, in that we wish him well in his battle with cancer, but from what I saw of him, I don't believe it's true that his cancer is in remission. I have a feeling he will pass away sometime this year. Hope I'm wrong.

You're right, he was an SOB.

An insensitive comment, but what the hell...

I see Snow's battle with cancer as a reflection of the administration he's been the mouthpiece for. Both are diseased and wasting-away.

Re: An insensitive comment, but what the hell...

Is it really insensitive to note that a man's physiology will show when he's sold his soul? Clearly he should have hidden a painting of himself in his attic to prevent the outward signs...

Re: An insensitive comment, but what the hell...

Oh, he'd already sold his soul while being a "news" person on Fox. It's kinda like an adjustable-rate mortgage: it's a bitch when the higher payments come due.

Re: An insensitive comment, but what the hell...

True, that. At least with Fox it was a fixed-rate mortgage, but now it's a balloon loan and the balance is coming due...

Scuttlebutt here in the Commonwealth is that it'll be Mark Warner vs. Jim Gilmore for John's senate seat. If that's true, then Warner will quite likely mop the floor with him. Suits me just fine.

John Warner did A LOT of good for my corner of VA, though. I'll miss him.

Can't survive on his White House salary of $168,000 a year?

OMGWTF?

Okay, how do I get a job as a talking head on TV?

I was gonna say. I make about 1/3 of that before taxes and manage to support myself and a kid with no great hardship.

Oh come on! Nobody took it! This is a perfect chance for a health care jab!

He makes $168,000 a year (I make $40,000..wah..wah..waaahhhh) AND he has health insurance to pay for his colon cancer screenings, chemo., treatments, medications, follow up exams, etc. It must be really hard to make a lot of money, have health insurance and have cancer compared to the people who are lower or middle class socioeconomically, have little or no health care, and have cancer.

,,,

Starting to look like it's going to be a bad couple of years to be a republican, I'm going to cry in my coffee now and start dreaming of my country coming back now.
