McCain's New Cold War

(Hat-tip SilentPatriot)

At least someone out there is scrutinizing McCain’s neocon craziness:

Newsweek's Fareed Zakaria:
On March 26, McCain gave a speech on foreign policy in Los Angeles that was billed as "his most comprehensive" statement on the subject. It contained within it the most radical idea put forward by a major candidate for the presidency in 25 years. Yet almost no one noticed.

In his speech, McCain proposed that the United States expel Russia from the G8, the group of advanced industrial countries. Moscow was included in this body in the 1990s to recognize and reward it for peacefully ending the cold war on Western terms, dismantling the Soviet empire and withdrawing from large chunks of the old Russian Empire as well. McCain also proposed that the United States should expand the G8 by taking in India and Brazil—but pointedly excluded China from the councils of power.
You would think a policy-reversal of this magnitude would merit some serious attention, right? Not in McCain’s Media.

P.S. Oh, the irony...

Golly— imagine if a non-Republican presidential candidate had made such a statement, or maybe just a not-John-McCain presidential candidate. I suspect they'd suffer more than just dubious whispers about their foreign-policy credentials.

“I certainly don’t know what (Obama) believes in. The only foreign policy thing I remember he said was he’s going to attack Pakistan and embrace Ahmadinejad.” - Commander Guy

And, of course, the Crawford Dauphin also gets the details wrong.

I think what Obama actually said was that he wanted to nuke Pakistan into a parking lot and then send down the Afghanistan garrison to paint lines, and that he wanted to slip Ahmedinejad some blacksnake and follow it up by playing him like a rusty trombone.

Because, you know, context matters.

Your bomb-rider would probably make a better U.S. president than McCain. ☺

Taking in Brazil?!?!?!? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
Anyone who's read anything about Brazil knows it's huge on it's own independence and identity. Never in a million years would it join the G8.
