Sound Familiar?
As The Pap points out here during a guest appearance on The Ed Show, venomous, violent rhetoric from the right is nothing new, dating back to the days of JFK. In fact, many believe that wingnut hate-talk is what led to Kennedy's assassination:

On a bright note:

The Tucson Sentinel is reporting that Gabrielle Giffords' condition has been upgraded from critical to serious, and that the congresswoman is breathing on her own after being removed from her ventilator on Saturday.

A tracheotomy was performed on Giffords to "replace the breathing tube that ran down her throat with a tracheotomy tube in her windpipe, protecting her airway and freeing her from the ventilator," UMC spokesman Michael Griffith said Saturday. A feeding tube as inserted as well, Griffith said.

The other two patients from the shooting who remain at UMC are in good condition.

Ring of Fire

I like Sam Seder and the That's Bullshite! show when he comes on he needs to be more frequent with his pod cast.

The media is being incredibly optimistic concerning Congresswoman Gifford.

Beware of believing everything the media reports.

Hate speech in the U.S. Mass Media is even older than this. I live right down the street from Father Coughlin's church. Place is beautiful, but it gives me the creeps.

For that matter, violent actions in US politics go all the way back to President Washington being the only US President ever to directly exercise his powers as commander-in-chief: to suppress a tax rebellion. For some reason you never hear about *that* part of the Washington Administration from the Founders fanboys.

"For some reason you never hear about *that* part of the Washington Administration from the Founders fanboys."

LOL. I also get a kick out of the teabaggers' distrust of/disdain for lawyers, knowing that:

• Of the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence, 25 were lawyers.

• Of the 55 framers of the Constitution, 32 were lawyers.

Fucking idiots.

On another subject entirely... well, well, well. Who'da thought?

Green Bay at Chicago for the NFC title.

Gentlemen, start sharpening your pitchforks.

Man, I got to watch the wrong half of that game. I'm fine with the Bears winning, but watching the 'Hawks get stomped like that in the first half was just lame. I'm glad they at least managed to give the Bears a decent run for their money in the fourth quarter.

Unbelievable... and I do believe this is only the second time in history that Chicago and Green Bay have gone head-to-head for the NFC title (the last time being 1941).

Quoting SportiFI:

"The Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers have the longest-running rivalry in the NFL, but now the rivalry goes somewhere it has never gone before: deciding who will play in the Super Bowl...there simply is not another conference championship matchup that could possibly measure up to the drama, intrigue, and history of this one."

P.S. Watching New England fail was downright delicious.

The elephant in the room, of course, is that Kennedy, a year after the Cuban Missile Crisis and two years after executing Eisenhower's bad idea was shot not by a Right-Winger but by one of the many diehard Marxist-Leninists of the Cold War era.

The better analogy would be to the spokesmen of "massive resistance" aka US racial terror who were motivated by precisely this for some of the greatest upheaval the South has seen bar the "Redemption" (i.e. when It Happened Here).
