Damn right y'all put a fool in the White House. Two fools. 1981 and 2001, in fact. Blame them for Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden, since Reagan pretty much created those two.

I found a wealth of these quotes earlier today (of which I'll be posting a selection in the days ahead)... some of them are just plain ridiculous, others downright frightening.

Erm.....not really. Saddam had been a factor in Ba'ath party politics since the 1960s and his takeover was completed during Carter's term. *And* he got a shitload of aid from *both* superpowers as neither for their own reasons wanted Iran to beat Iraq in the war. Bin Laden, though, is very much one of Reagan's legacies.

Yeah, Saddam wasn't completely Reagan's fault. But those old grainy video clips of Rumsfeld being all buddy-buddy with him and selling him lots of arms and shit 'cause, y'know, he was fighting Iran and the enemy of our enemy is always our friend <snort> well, y'know.

He got a lot of guns from Gorby, too. The Soviets really weren't keen on the likes of Khomeini stirring up the Muslims in the USSR. But yes, we certainly did give him the poison gas that he used on his own people and the Iranians. I believe if WMDs had ever been found in Iraq it's most likely they would have been US-made for that reason.

Saddam's rise to power was nobody's fault except the Ba'ath Party who failed to realize the risks of keeping a Stalin fanboy in position to ape his idol's achievements.....

Yes, it was not a very wise move for Bush to start a war without adequate supplies or an adequate number of troops and no idea of what victory looked like. It was still more unwise to do that again and follow up Clinton's three raids with an actual war. And of course Bush was a splendid statesman....for the Gilded Age. I swear the man seemed to believe patronage is still how politics works. Not that this circlejerker ever meant Bush herem of course.
