Project Launch & Reader Poll
For those of you who expressed an interest in the new art project...

My lovely model arrived in perfect condition yesterday, and I had a chance to do a little introductory work (starting on her left arm):

Mind you, this is just the very beginning of a long, detailed project. My goal is to mix, match and incorporate at least 7-8 different colors on each section of her body. From there, I'll experiment with various beads, bangles, bracelets & other bling and see what I come up with to complete her look.

Speaking of accoutrements, Jessi & I are heading over to Michael's on Saturday for more paints, brushes, swabs, tinted inks and a variety of possible accessories. Final wardrobe options — assuming I choose to clothe her at all — have yet to be examined; we'll have to wait until the design really starts taking shape to make a determination. (And yes, I'll very likely be running a reader poll on garments when the time comes.)

As I touched on in my original entry, I am basing the "root system" design on a collection of paintings I've done over the years, mostly on unusual surfaces such as metal (from old street signs), wood (from discarded furniture & paneling) and formica laminate (from kitchen remodeling scrap).

Also mentioned in the first post, I'll be adding a similarly painted male mannequin to the project, once I am 100% satisfied with the female. The Happy Couple will eventually be mounted in a stylish (yet slightly eerie) plexiglass diorama, based with volcanic (black) sand, white quartz and maybe a few nice pieces of driftwood or brain coral... TBD.

OK, then - here's the part where I could really use some input from you in selecting a killer wig to complete m'lady's look...

Below are twelve different styles that Jessi & I whittled down as "finalists" from a group of 200+, ranging in layer, length and color (all being reasonably affordable at $10-$40). I realize that this is a real "different strokes" type of question to be asking of you, but I'd really like to get your two cents before making a final decision.

Before voting, please have one more look at her, taking into account her flesh tone, build, pose, etc...

So, whaddya think? Long, thick dark locks? Short, blonde bob? Fiery, scorching red bangs? Or maybe something altogether different?

IMO the boobs on her look a bit cartoonishly large on the really slender build... I'll definitely reserve judgement till she's done though;)

You should give the female a short bob and the male a long cut. Play with the stereotypes a bit.

I think it would look pretty cool as well.

Also F. But I think a really short spiked do would be excellent.

I like L as well as F.

that's what I said... L, with all it's curl & volume, will help to balance the top-heavy mannequin. Plus --> curl = vibrant, straight = serious. so depends on what mood/tone you are aiming for <3

Are you painting or decorating the head & neck? That will make a big difference as to color, style and even if you'll need a wig at all.

Other than that, I got nothing but to patiently wait until that more is complete.

I'm blaming the drugs, plague, lack of sleep, and everything else flu-related to the complete grammatical nonsense and lack of proof-reading.

What was meant was "I will patiently wait until more is completed and then be able to better judge if a wig is needed at all".

Secondarily, I was browsing my favorite toy store's toys and crafts section and they have a whole slew of new and very cool goods in now- at what seems to be better prices than Michael's. Check Sciplus.com -- American Science and Surplus. They're on Milwaukee just an RCH north of Northwest Highway (behind Blue Eagle Diner).

Bring the kinder and $75 cash and leave the credit, debit and checks home.

AS&S is one of my favorite stores, especially when they have their annual sidewalk sale. :)

I think the red (F) would look great with her skintone. Much to my surprise, I see everyone agrees with me! Or did we just choose that one because the fake lady with the reddish hair is so cute?

It's hard to tell without seeing them all on her (though of course that's not possible).

C's my fave, but I also like E, F, and possibly H.

Nothing to do with tone etc., just the hair on its own.

I like the style of K, but I think it should be in an "anime hair" color - that is, a color that human hair cannot possibly be in nature. Based on the paint job so far, I'd suggest either bright aqua or fluorescent pink.

I'm thinking 'I' but also envisioning her in a hospital gown with a CPAP mask, sitting in a lawn chair on your porch.

what a kick @$$ project mr. artist :D My primary pick is E mostly for it's length, layers, and the way it tapers to the face! My secondary pick is L because I believe a the curliness adds volume by the face to make her look more well proportioned (she has a rather large bosom)

I read nothing of your post but G looks like my hair so whatever it's about, it's about me.
