Election Night Summary

Win of the Night: Mississippi's "personhood" amendment soundly defeated, angering wingnuts (and zygotes) across the state.

Runner-Up: Arizona voters give Russell Pearce (self-proclaimed "Tea Party President" and author of the infamously racist SB 1070) the boot.

Stat of the Night: More people in Ohio voted to repeal Kasich's anti-union law tonight than voted for Kasich in 2010.

As I just said to a right-wing college buddy of mine, on Facebook: "Cops, firefighters, and school teachers turn out to be more popular than Tea Partiers and corporate welfare. Who knew?"

Haha, that is awesome.

Yaaaaay for all three results but especially for "Personhood" going down in Mississippi. That's just awesome. Also, so glad to see you back, Blaque. Hope your travails are over and you're on a good upward path.

Thought this little item was right up your alley: Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL) melts down, yells hysterically "don't blame banks!". Nice seeing an asshole like him lose it like that ;D

Yeah, but the Personhood USA group is trying to get a similar "zygotes=people" bill voted on in a few other states too. It's not over yet.

I know. You're in SC, right?. I believe that's one of the places they're planning to try, along with Ohio, Virginia and Georgia as far as I know.

... I honestly don't know. I know they're pushing it in Oregon and Florida, at least. It wouldn't surprise me if they tried to get it going in South Carolina.

True, but the fact that it failed in what's probably the most conservative state in the country makes me a bit optimistic.

Good news all around! And welcome back Blaque. I tried to play the video but I got told the video was private.

Damn, yeah somebody got the video taken private. Found a shorter clip here: http://youtu.be/nb73zqY6lZM.

Yeah so happy Issue 2 was killed here in Ohio.

I am happy for the results elsewhere, but where I live in Chester County, PA, the repugnacunts still elect whoever they choose, for good or ill.

I refuse to vote for repugnacunts.

Socially, the national party is against just about every thing I'm for. Economically, they are substituting fact-based economics with the Koch brothers' dictums.

The state party is morally bankrupt.

The local party is a machine. It hand-picks candidates in a closed-door selection process for the primary, funds them, then runs & wins in the general elections. With a strong majority that blindly pulls the R lever, they are simply not accountable.

Yes, not too shabby of an election day. Made up for Monday (where the right-wing Saskatchewan Party increased their majority over the left-wing NDP to something like 49-9 in the SK provincial election).

I am honestly surprised about Russell Pearce! I guess my home state isn't as racist as I feared...

awesome!! The Dems had some big wins in Utah too!

The only disgusting story from my election night- a man convicted of fraud and embezzlement was elected because his opponent was openly gay. Utah prefers criminals to homos. So sad :(

BTW- I miss you!! <3 <3

So, this man is a convicted felon and he can somehow become an elected official?!

And my poor friend who had a silly felony drug charge when she was 19 is now almost 30 and is struggling to find a job. Even though she was 19 and it was just some pot.

Horrible.

No less than three members of Bush's cabinet were convicted of lying to congress in the Iran/Contra scandal, and Dick Cheney himself was indicted for selling dual-use technology to Iran under Clinton's watch. Ollie North was convicted of straight up Treason. The convictions for smaller crimes are even more numerous in congress. Felony convictions do not prevent the rich and well connected from getting government jobs, they just prevent everyone else from ever getting anywhere.

"Utah prefers criminals to homos."

Sounds about right. :-\

All good things. AND Cindy Golding, the NOM-backed Iowa Senate candidate, lost to Democrat Liz Mathis. This keeps the Senate 26-24 in favor of Democrats (the House is Rethug-controlled), so same-sex marriage is safe in Iowa for now.

I had a really good feeling going into Tuesday that Issue 2 was going down. The fact that Kasuck was still pushing for it right up to the bitter end fucked me off like no one's business.

I just hope we can get that fucker out of office next election.

Outstanding. It's about time that we're seeing some positive things happen.
