I have to assume that they're trying to continue to raise them in captivity, so that particular bit of DNA hasn't vanished completely from the Earth's genetic library. But it's not the same.

And the worst part is that they were killed off just to get the horns, which have no value except what's spuriously attributed by symbolism.

Pick your battles, mate, and don't fash yourself too sorely. We can't control all the stupid, greedy, selfish behavior to which our kind is prone. We can't stop the megalomaniacs amongst us from blowing up the very things that are keeping them, and us, alive. We can't really even distance ourselves very far from them, because (like it or not) they are us.

All we can do is try to mitigate the harm as best we can, and if we can gain enough numbers to gang up on them, that might just swing it.

Sadly, I have always thought Agent Smith had a point, even tho I was on Neo's side. It doesn't have to be that way, but, well, we sure are trying. I'm with the person above who wishes to claim membership with a different species.
